 Tea, Truth, and Unfinished Business

As soon as Antonette hung up, Chanel and I stayed on the phone for almost another hour — laughing, replaying the scene, and making up wild scenarios about what Crystal had to be telling Antonette right about now. No matter how she tried to remix it, I was there. Front row. I knew the truth.

The only person I felt bad for was Jason. According to Antonette, he was a solid dude. Good heart. Loved Crystal unconditionally. And that’s what made the whole thing even messier. Antonette admitted she didn’t think

Crystal ever fully committed to him — not really — because of how things ended with her and Duane. Some people don’t let go… they just carry old wounds into new relationships.

All I could think was, at some point, you gotta love the one you’re with.

I was waiting on Antonette to call back — partly because I cared, but mostly because I’m nosy and I own it. After hanging up with Chanel, I poured myself a glass of wine, put together a little charcuterie board, and turned on some ratchet TV to unwind. Duane was in his newly redesigned man cave watching the game, and the weather forecast said there was a seventy-five percent chance of rain.

Perfect night to be tucked in and unbothered in my palace.

I had just slipped into my favorite sweats, fuzzy socks on, fully settled, when my phone rang.

Antonette.

I paused the TV immediately. Whatever she had was about to be way messier than anything Bravo could serve.

“Hey girl,” I said, sitting up. “Skip the intro. I want all the tea.”

“Girl,” Antonette said, breathless. “You will not believe this.”

I took a slow sip of wine. In my mind, I was already bracing for some off-the-wall foolishness only a woman scorned could come up with.

“When I called her back,” Antonette continued, “I was ready to light her up. I had my whole speech ready — about you, about Duane, about how she was about to lose another good man behind some old BS. But before I could say a word… she beat me to it.”

I raised an eyebrow.

“She said, ‘Antonette, I think I’ve really been tripping. I owe Stacey and Duane an apology. And I owe Jason honesty — and the love he deserves.’

I almost choked on my wine.

Antonette went on. “She said seeing Duane brought everything rushing back — the memories, the hurt from him ghosting her, all of it. Like backdraft in a fire. And when she realized you were the woman he chose? She admitted it made her want to know what you had that she didn’t.”

In my head, I nodded. Huh, I don’t blame her.

“She said instead of appreciating what she had, she wanted what she couldn’t have. Said she must’ve been out of her mind trying to test you and chase Duane.”

Antonette paused, then lowered her voice. “Girl… she started choking up.”

Crystal had said, ‘I have a great man right here who loves me. And because of my own selfishness and past pain, I wouldn’t let him fully in. What if Duane had taken the bait? Would I really have left Jason — my for-sure thing — for a man who ghosted me and who I don’t even know anymore?’

Antonette sighed. “She said she should’ve never acted the way she did — not at y’all’s house, not in the restaurant, and definitely not in that coffee shop. And when Duane told her why he ghosted her… she said she almost fell through the floor. She had completely forgotten that conversation.”

Antonette laughed softly. “I told her I forgot too — until you brought it up.”

Crystal had even admitted she was glad Jason walked in. She said the moment she saw Duane walk in with you, she knew it was a wrap. They were in love. Solid. Unbothered.

“When Jason showed up,” Crystal told her, “my heart stopped. I knew I was making a mistake just being there. At my age, I should’ve been grateful for what God already gave me instead of looking backward.”

Then Crystal said something that made me pause.

She said she was grateful you guys went along with her story — that you could’ve blown her whole life up and didn’t. And that’s why she wanted to call me.

“She asked me to tell you and Duane that she’s truly sorry,” Antonette said. “And that she’s grateful for how you handled it.”

Antonette told her the truth. That because of her behavior, she might never get invited to another girls’ outing. That forgiveness wasn’t guaranteed. That she did too much.

Crystal didn’t argue.

Then, just as she was wrapping up her apology tour, Antonette said she heard Jason’s voice in the background.

‘Hey babe… who you talking to? And what did you want to change about the past?’

Antonette laughed so hard she had to catch her breath. “Girl… Crystal hung up so fast my eardrum rang.”

I laughed right along with her.

“Oh, to be a fly on that wall,” I said. “If she’s smart — which is debatable — she won’t tell him a damn thing. She’ll spin it into something that keeps that relationship intact.”

Antonette laughed. “It’s hard out here for women over fifty.”

“Especially if you’re not F.L.Y. After Fifty,” I said.

She snapped. “That part. I’m sending her the book and the podcast. Jayme be telling the truth whether folks ready or not.”

“Every time,” I said. “Alright, let me go share this tea with my soon-to-be husband. Love you. I’ll call you tomorrow — we’ve got dress shopping to do.”

After we hung up, I sat back for a moment, exhaled, and stared at the ceiling.

Duane and I had already been through enough.

I whispered a quiet prayer that nothing else crazy would come knocking anytime soon…

But deep down?

I had a feeling the universe wasn’t quite finished testing us yet.

On April 23, 2005, Jawed Karim recorded an 18-second video at the San Diego Zoo, unknowingly making history as the very first upload on YouTube.

This brief moment sparked a revolution, transforming video sharing from a technical hurdle into everyday reality for people and businesses.

YouTube broke barriers, letting anyone upload video without technical skills or expensive resources, and opened new ways for educators, businesses, and creators to connect through sound and motion.

Reducing friction to sharing new formats proved vital, vastly extending digital visibility.

Today, this lesson is crucial as AI systems learn from diverse content.

A strong Visibility Footprint—consistently distributed across text, video, audio, and images—ensures businesses are recognized by both users and machines.

Building this presence through format variety, consistency, and machine-readable structure is essential for lasting digital relevance.

In December 1901, the world witnessed a breakthrough in communication that forever changed how people connect across continents.

Guglielmo Marconi, the inventive Italian pioneer, achieved the first transmission of a radio signal across the Atlantic Ocean.

Before this leap, global messages depended on slow-moving ships and undersea cables, significantly delaying urgent news.

That all changed when Marconi received a Morse code "S" at Signal Hill in St. John’s, Newfoundland, sent from Poldhu, Cornwall, England—covering more than 2,000 miles.

Quote Of The Day

“After 50, it’s not about becoming someone new — it’s about finally honoring the woman you’ve always been.”

In 1975, Kodak engineer Steven Sasson invented the first digital camera, weighing eight pounds and capturing low-resolution, black-and-white images.

Kodak’s leadership, wary of digital’s threat to its film business, decided to suppress this breakthrough.

That fateful choice led to Kodak’s decline, as rivals advanced in the digital realm.
