The Quiet Shift - Part 1
Morning didn’t ask permission.
It just… arrived.
Soft light poured through the cabin windows, stretching across the floor, climbing the walls, settling into corners like it belonged there.
The kind of light that didn’t expose anything harsh— just made everything clearer.
Stacey stood at the kitchen counter, fingers wrapped loosely around a warm mug, watching the steam rise without really seeing it.
The cabin was quiet.
Not the same quiet as before.
This one had… awareness in it.
Behind her, she heard movement.
Slow.
Measured.
Duane.
She didn’t turn right away.
Didn’t rush the moment.
She just stood there… feeling it.
He walked into the kitchen a few seconds later, t-shirt slightly wrinkled, hair untouched, eyes still carrying sleep—but not fully.
Not really.
He paused when he saw her.
Not in hesitation.
Just… taking her in.
“Morning,” he said. His voice was calm.
But softer than yesterday.
“Morning,” she replied, turning slightly. Their eyes met. And for a second— it felt like they were both seeing something new.
Not unfamiliar.
Just… more honest.
Duane nodded toward her mug. “You been up long?”
“A little while.”
He walked past her, grabbing another mug, pouring coffee slow.
No rush. No small talk filling the space.
Just… presence.
He leaned against the counter across from her, lifting the mug to his lips, eyes drifting to her again.
Not casual.
Observing.
Stacey felt it.
Not pressure.
Just… attention.
Different than before.
Like he wasn’t just with her he was taking her in.
Trying to understand something.
Or maybe…trying to understand what this was becoming.
She broke the silence first.
“Balcony?” she asked softly.
He nodded. “Yeah.” |

The calm ability to see what matters most, even in the middle of noise, confusion, or pressure. The grounded awareness that comes when your mind is settled and your purpose is in focus.
“I choose clarity. I release distraction, quiet the noise, and trust myself to see with wisdom. What is meant for me does not require confusion, and with each steady breath, my path becomes more visible.” |
