What is the term for the study of the process of aging and the problems of aging populations?

Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

Dirty Cabbage - Stacey's Favorite Dish

Ingredients

  • 1 medium head of cabbage (chopped)
  • ½ lb smoked sausage or turkey sausage (sliced)
  • ½ lb ground turkey or ground beef
  • 1 small onion (diced)
  • 1 bell pepper (diced)
  • 2–3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1–2 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika (key for depth)
  • 1 tsp Cajun or Creole seasoning
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • Splash of chicken or vegetable broth (optional)

Instructions

  1. Start with the sausage
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sausage and let it brown well (don’t rush this—this builds flavor). Remove and set aside.
  2. Brown the ground meat
In the same pan, cook ground turkey or beef until browned. Let it get slightly crispy on the edges.
  3. Layer the flavor
Add onion and bell pepper. Cook until softened, then add garlic and stir for about 30 seconds.
  4. Add cabbage
Toss in chopped cabbage and mix everything together.
  5. Season generously
Add smoked paprika, Cajun seasoning, black pepper, red pepper flakes, and salt. Mix well.
  6. Cook it down
Cover and cook 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add a splash of broth if needed to prevent sticking.
  7. Final touch
Taste and adjust seasoning. That’s it—no sweetness, no tang—just rich, savory goodness.

Longevity isn’t determined by secret formulas or rare luck, but by simple habits practiced daily.

Regular physical activity, like brisk walking or even light chores, significantly boosts the chance to age healthily and stay free of major diseases well into later years.

Research involving adults over 50 shows that swapping an hour of TV for exercise increases healthy aging odds by 28%, while replacing desk time with standing or light walking yields a noticeable benefit too.

Alongside movement, balanced nutrition is vital—fruits, vegetables, and whole foods help protect against disease and maintain bodily functions.

Prioritizing quality sleep, aiming for seven to nine hours nightly, is equally important for the body’s repair and well-being.

Finally, social connections enhance emotional health and foster longer, more fulfilling lives, especially through local wellness programs and events.
